Its an old tradition (well, at least 6 years old), one that may or may not last, based on the slight resistance I received this Summer and last (and the outright refusal the year before). But, as long as my powers of persuasion still hold sway, there will continue to be an annual Shearing of my Little Sheep. His hair is so thick and grows so very fast, its a relief to be able to keep it Summer-short for awhile.
I couldn't resist a "During"...
Mwah! Kiss-kiss-kiss. Love that face! That head! Those eyes!

Summer Buzz Cut
Until last Summer, we had a tradition of buzz cuts for the kiddo when the warm weather came. He decided in all of his 5 year old wisdom that he was too old, and would be too embarrassed to have his hair that short, and wanted it cut like Daddy's instead.
So I begrudgingly complied.
Well, this past school year, he had a good friend in class who wore his hair buzzed all year long. It wasn't too hard to convince him to let me shear his head this time around.
Especially knowing that his Luigi would be keeping an eye on me, making sure I didn't mess up and make him bald on accident.
Allergic to haircuts, just like his Daddy (and various other seasonal substances it would seem).
"That was funny, Mama! Now you can put a picture of me sneezing on your blog!"
MWAH! Love that cute not-so-little noggin!
Now if only we could get some teeth back in that mouth...

Shorn
Its that time of year again, when busy farm folk are shearing their sheep and putting the freshly clipped wool to good use.

Here at Hillside Farm, we don't raise sheep, but there is plenty of Springtime shearing going on anyway...

Shearing the Sheep
Before...

After...

I just wish I could make something useful out of all of that hair. It can't really be felted like wool, though, and some might find a hair-stuffed pillow a bit creepy.
See the baggy in his hand? He was having a little trouble seeing all of his locks blow away in the wind, and wanted to keep some. I figure it won't hurt, and in a few days, when the baggie disappears, he won't even notice.

Buzz Cut
I got tired of looking at the uneven haircut that I gave the Kid a few weeks ago, so, on a whim, I strapped him down with the intention of just fixing the cut. By the time I was done, he had his very first summer buzz cut. It looks crazy cute on him, but his Daddy's first words? "What happened to you? You look like you're 18!" And he really does look older with his hair so short, but he is still my baby.
Here he is enjoying his Morning Glory Muffin (see next post for the yummy recipe):
