Chai Fireball Whiskey Tea

A few days ago I came across a yummy looking recipe on Pinterest. I had none of the specific ingredients on hand, but figured it, like all other recipes I encounter, was more a rule of thumb that could be tweaked, than a law that had to be followed to the letter.

So I did.

Yesterday, on a no-school day, as I sat in a cold house waiting for our chimney guy to fix a leak, I knew it was time to  give it a try.
I didn't have the called-for tea, but I did have some bags of Stash decaf Chai Tea. And as I reached for the bottle of Bourbon in the pantry, my eyes spotted Fireball, just sitting there innocently minding its own business.

But of course!
Tea bag and hot water in the pot and a generous splash of whiskey into my teacup...

Pour in the steeped tea...

 sip... yum.
I still want to give that other recipe a try, but for now, I have the means to stay completely warmed through.

Pause

Some big things going on around here today.
Including, but not limited to, the hooking up of high-speed internet! Woot! Until very recently, our only options were dial-up or satellite. I am not excited about switching email addresses, but otherwise, will be glad to turn that old satellite dish into a birdbath.
The biggest question is when, in the 8-5 window of time, the technician will arrive. And will he have the courtesy to call my cell phone as requested, if he arrives when I am at an appointment this morning or taking the Kindergartener to school?

Oh... the anticipation!

On My Counter

Alternate title: Still Life with Coffee, Sampler, and Hot Wheels.

We were having a meaningful conversation this morning, my Boy and I, in which he revealed that every afternoon he stands up with his class and they "say some words". Words that turned out to be the entire Pledge of Allegiance, which I had no idea he had memorized, but which he then recited to me, in entirety. A conversation in which he also revealed that two of his friends, amazingly, also like the Cars movies, but that one of them hasn't seen Cars 2 yet. And that he had a dream that I was rocking our Girl when she was a baby, and then I disappeared, and he had to take care of her after that.

Then abruptly, he ran off, abandoning his Hot Wheels and sippy cup. And a weekly bring-home envelope from school, with a newsletter from his Teacher, and a multi-colored bear.

And me. Still reeling from the information bombardment. Loving the reeling, loving the bombardment.

So this is what it is like, being separated for hours at a time, gaining independent experiences.
Now it is me and that teacup.
All sunny, and a good yellow, I found it perched under glass at my Goodwill.
When it was still there a week later, I knew it was meant to be.

Coffee tastes really good sipped from English china.
Then there is that in-the-works sampler.
With yet another house.
I really do love samplers with houses... I hope you do too.

This one needs some color tweaking, so the piles of floss will join it on the counter soon.
Right after the bedding goes out on the line, and the beans get picked.

Its going to be a good day.
