And so it Begins...

It had apparently been quite a long time since I stitched on a piece of Weeks' 40 count linen. So when I picked up my newest project, started up my needle, and my eyeballs kept getting crossed instead of the threads, I thought I needed a new lightbulb in my lamp.

The new lightbulb did not help.

Sitting in a different chair with a different lamp helped only slightly.

Stitching by daylight helped only slightly more than slightly.

So I did what any intelligent woman would do.

I bought my first pair of stitching glasses.
I thought stitching glasses were at least a decade in my future.
But the glasses did the trick, so I'm just going to have to admit it...
this Spring chicken is all grown up.

I am a lot older than you and I typically wear trifocals. I just "upgraded" from years of 36 count back to 32 count! It begins and continues; either magnification or count. But we don not give up our stitching.

Oh my, cheaters have been part of my arsenal for years now. I used to just use them for stitching, starting with the weakest strength. I have now graduated to 1.75 and recently tried a 2.00 and found them to be just a bit better...darn. I now need them for just about everything, so welcome to the great society of cheaters!

I think it comes to us all, I have been wearing glasses for stitching since my mid 30's and I occasionally use a magnifier as well.

I haven't used them yet, but I am sure if I tried 40 ct I would!

Welcome to my world. Lol. I started out with reading glasses from the drugstore, and kept buying the next stronger pair until I finally invested in MagEyes. Best things EVER! I use them now with every project from 40 count down to 28 count, and I love every minute of it. Better off seeing what you're stitching than giving yourself a headache from eye strain. Your glasses look quite nice!

The fact that you can even stitch on 40 count amazes me! I usually stitch on 32 count using a magnifier AND bifocals (but they're the "no-line" so nobody can tell!) I agree with Kevin: better off seeing and enjoying what you are stitching than straining your eyes. Besides: glasses give a face character. They're an accessory, just like jewelry! I've been accessorizing my face since grade school! Welcome to the club!

For me it started as soon as I turned 40. It doesn't matter what count I sew on, I still have to wear glasses! Well if we can't beat em, join em!

40 was the magic number for me, too, and can't do anything these days without my specs!!! Welcome to the club!
