Snow Days

I know that for many of you, this winter has been way too long, way too cold, way too white and frozen. But for us, it has been mild. So mild we thought we wouldn't get a chance to play in snow. Western Oregon is known for its mild (rainy) winters, and many love our part of the state for that very reason. Well, we love living in the higher elevations of the Cascade foothills because we get the best of both worlds. In the fourteen years I've lived here there has only been one winter with no measurable snowfall. We thought this would be the second such year.

But then Wednesday morning we woke to just enough for a before-school snowball fight (yes, we still have lights on a few trees in our Christmas patch... why not?).
Just enough to see bird and kitty tracks leading to the feeder.
And on Thursday the snow settled in for reals, causing schools to let out early and close entirely on Friday. I don't know many people who weren't happy to get a Snow Day. Here's how we spent the long weekend...
We sometimes get snow into March, so there may yet be more fun in store for us, but as I look out the window this morning, all I see is an onslaught of rain melting away all the white. So sad.

I love snow! We've had Winter with hardly any snow here in Kentucky. We've lived here ten years. This year we've had snow and it stayed for a long time. The kids have been out of school six days straight but I believe tomorrow will be a school day. We have enjoyed the days off doing what you're doing. While other parents are upset that there is no school I am sad to see it end. Thanks for the lovely pictures, Beth!

Beth these pictures are beautiful!! Even being tired of our winter here in northwestern Illinois, these are still beautiful. I love your Christmas patch:) I am glad your kids were able to enjoy it. Thank you

Really beautiful pics :) We don't get snow here so I am always very envious of those who get to make snowballs and slide down a hill! We had a wee bit of snow once in 2011....not enough for a snowball...but were we entertained!! Everyone poured out of the offices to stand in wonder and enjoy the feel of it on their faces

This must be the storm that we are waiting on to arrive here. We might get 1 snow a year and usually just a dusting but once in a while we get a good amount and that is what this is supposed to be.

No snow here... just starting to get some rain onto the parched ground. It's been a long dry summer... only a few weeks left and we are very thankful for something streaming from the sky apart from blistering sun :) I like all your snow pics, but particularly love the footprints of both featheries and fluffies leading down to the bird feeder. LOL :D
