Puppies!

We knew that whelping was imminent when Jazzi refused her meals yesterday.

I went to bed at my usual time, 10:15. When the Man of the House went out for one last check before bed, at around 11:30, he heard the cries of newborn pups... four of them had already been born.

He checked in periodically through the night to make sure everyone was doing well, and still managed to head off to work today.

When I peeked my head in this morning, I counted 9 white puppies, and 1 not-gonna-budge Mama. All seems to be well.

We learned the last time that just because everyone appears happy and healthy, the first few weeks are still a very fragile time for the pups. So my focus will now be on regular visual checks to watch for signs of weak puppies. I imagine we will have our first weigh in session tonight, using my little postal scale, and will be monitoring their growth.

An email went out late last night to let everyone registered for her litter know that their pups were on their way. I think perhaps there are some very excited future owners out there today, anxiously awaiting news!
